Europa
España. Previsión de mal tiempo y huelgas
La Aemet informa en su página web de que este miércoles se ha activado el aviso naranja (riesgo alto) por el temporal de nieve, oleaje, viento y lluvia que afecta a toda España, a excepción de Canarias. Podría haber nevadas importantes, vientos con rachas de hasta 110 km/h y olas de entre 6 y 8 metros en 12 comunidades autónomas. La Aemet advierte de que mientras la alerta amarilla no conlleva riesgo meteorológico para la población en general, sí lo hay para algunas actividades concretas, existe un riesgo meteorológico importante con la alerta naranja y cierto grado de peligro para las actividades rutinarias.
En Andalucía, está vigente el aviso naranja por nevadas en la provincia de Jaén, donde se prevén 20 cm en 24 horas por encima de los 800 metros, en Cazorla, y en Segura; en Granada, las nevadas afectarán a Guadix, Baza, y la cuenca del Genil con 5 cm en 24 horas; y además, en Almera y Granada, sigue vigente el nivel naranja por olas de 4-5 metros.
La Aemet también ha activado el nivel amarillo (riesgo) por viento, riesgo de aludes y temperaturas mínimas. Aragón mantiene la alerta naranja por nevadas que acumularán 20 centímetros en 24 horas, principalmente en el sector occidental, con la cota de nieve bajando desde los 1.000 metros aproximadamente hasta el nivel total por la tarde.
Asturias tiene activado el aviso naranja por vientos del oeste de 62 a 74 km/h (fuerza 8) y ocasionalmente de 75 a 88 km/h (fuerza 9) con olas de entre 6 y 8 metros en la mitad norte peninsular. También hay alerta naranja por nevadas en la sierra y Picos de Europa con una acumulación de 20 cm de nieve en 24 horas por encima de los 1.200 metros.
Cantabria sigue en alerta naranja por fenómenos costeros desfavorables, entre ellos olas de 6 a 8 metros, nevadas de 20 cm en 24 horas por encima de los 1.000 metros, con acumulaciones puntuales de 30 cm, y alerta amarilla por lluvias de 40 litros en 12 horas en el litoral.
Salvo Salamanca, Soria y Valladolid, todas las provincias de Castilla y León están en alerta naranja por nevadas que acumularán entre 5 y 30 cm de espesor en cotas extremadamente bajas y hasta cualquier cota; la Aemet advierte de que en algunas zonas de Burgos y León los espesores podrían superar los 40 cm.
Galicia, muy afectada por el temporal, está en alerta naranja por vientos del oeste de 62 a 74 km/h (fuerza 8), olas de 6 a 8 metros de altura que llegarán a descender hasta los 5 ó 6 metros, y nevadas que acumularán hasta 20 cm por encima de los 800 metros en 24 horas.
En Navarra se ha activado la alerta naranja por nevadas de 10 cm en 24 horas a unos 300-400 metros de altitud. La Aemet advierte de que hay alerta amarilla por posibilidad de aludes, y que estas cantidades podrían llegar a superar los 500 metros en la vertiente cantábrica y los 700 metros en el centro de la región.
Con vientos de poniente entre 62 y 74 km/h (fuerza 8), brevemente entre 75 y 88 km/h (fuerza 9), olas entre 6 y 8 metros, y nevadas que dejarán 15 cm en 24 horas en torno a los 400 metros, el País Vasco sigue en alerta naranja.
En La Rioja se prevén nevadas, con acumulaciones de 5 cm en 24 horas por encima de 400 metros en la Rioja Alta y algo menos en la Rioja Media, pero sin acumulaciones significativas en la Ribera Baja.
Mientras en Baleares sigue la mar gruesa y los vientos de poniente de 50 a 60 km/h, en Cataluña, en el Mediterráneo, hay alerta naranja por fenómenos costeros dañinos.
Castellón sigue bajo aviso naranja en la Comunidad Valenciana por rachas máximas de viento de 100 km/h, mientras que Melilla también está bajo aviso naranja por fuerte mar con olas de hasta 4 metros.
Por último, hay aviso amarillo por viento, olas o nieve para las ciudades de Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, Región de Murcia y Ceuta.
Huelga Vueling en España. El sindicato Stavla es el organizador de los paros, que empezaron el 1 de noviembre y tendrán lugar todos los viernes, domingos y lunes hasta el 31 de enero de 2023.
Spain Adverse weather forecast and strikes
The Aemet informs on its website that the orange warning (high risk) for the storm of snow, waves, wind, and rain that covers all of Spain, with the exception of the Canary Islands, was activated on Wednesday. There could be significant snowfalls, winds gusting up to 110 km/h, and waves between 6 and 8 meters in 12 autonomous communities. Aemet warns that while the yellow alert carries no meteorological risk for the general population, there is a risk for some specific activities, there is a substantial meteorological risk with the orange alert and some degree of hazard for routine activities.
In Andalusia, an orange warning is in effect for snowfall in the province of Jaén, where 20 cm are anticipated in 24 hours above 800 meters, in Cazorla, and in Segura; in Granada, snowfall will affect Guadix, Baza, and the Genil basin with 5 cm in 24 hours; and additionally, in Almera and Granada, the orange level is still in effect for waves of 4-5 meters.
The Aemet has also activated the yellow level (risk) for wind, the risk of avalanches, and the minimum temperatures. Aragon maintains the orange alert for snowfall that will accumulate 20 cm in 24 hours, primarily in the western sector, with the snow level dropping from approximately 1,000 m to full level in the afternoon.
Asturias has activated the orange warning for westerly winds of 62 to 74 km/h (force 8) and occasionally 75 to 88 km/h (force 9) with waves between 6 to 8 meters in the northern half of the peninsula. There is also an orange alert for snowfall in the mountains and Picos de Europa with an accumulation of 20 cm of snow in 24 hours above 1,200 meters.
Cantabria is still on orange alert for unfavorable coastal phenomena, including waves of 6 to 8 meters, snowfall of 20 cm in 24 hours above 1,000 meters, with occasional accumulations of 30 cm, and yellow alert for rain of 40 liters in 12 hours on the coast.
Except for Salamanca, Soria, and Valladolid, all of Castilla y León’s provinces are on orange alert for snowfall that will build between 5 and 30 cm thick at extremely low elevations and up to any height; Aemet cautions that in some areas of Burgos and León, thicknesses could exceed 40 cm.
Galicia, which has been severely impacted by the storm, is under an orange alert for westerly winds of 62 to 74 km/h (force 8), waves of 6 to 8 meters in height that will eventually drop to 5 or 6 meters, and snowfall that will accumulate to 20 cm above 800 meters in 24 hours.
The orange alert has been activated in Navarre for snowfall of 10 cm in 24 hours at an altitude of about 300-400 meters. Aemet cautions that there is a yellow alert for the potential of avalanches, and that these amounts might reach above 500 meters on the Cantabrian slope and 700 meters in the region’s center.
With westerly winds between 62 and 74 km/h (force 8), briefly between 75 and 88 km/h (force 9), waves between 6 and 8 meters, and snowfall that will leave 15 cm in 24 hours around 400 meters, the Basque Country is still on orange alert.
Snowfall is predicted for La Rioja, with accumulations of 5 cm in 24 hours above 400 meters in the Rioja Alta and somewhat less in the Rioja Media, but no significant accumulations in the Ribera Baja.
While the Balearic Islands continue to experience rough seas and westerly winds of 50 to 60 km/h, Catalonia in the Mediterranean has an orange alert for harmful coastal occurrences.
Castellón continues to be under an orange warning in the Valencian Community for maximum wind gusts of 100 km/h, while Melilla is also under an orange warning for strong seas with waves up to 4 meters.
Finally, a yellow wind, wave, or snow warning is in effect for the cities of Castilla-La Mancha, Madrid, the Region of Murcia, and Ceuta.
Vueling strike in Spain. The Stavla union is the organiser of the stoppages, which began on 1 November and will take place every Friday, Sunday and Monday until 31 January 2023.

On January 19, and 26 London bus drivers will be on strike. The action will primarily affect buses in south and west London. Striking workers will be from depots in Battersea, Beddington, Hayes, Southall, Twickenham and Walworth.
Stansted Airport: No direct trains on 13th-18th January. There are no direct trains between Stansted Airport and London Liverpool Street due to essential engineering works. Please avoid travelling by train if possible and use alternative travel options like car, coach or taxi to Stansted Airport.

Ayer por la tarde hubo un tiroteo en el Hilton Garden Inn de West Columbia, Carolina del Sur.
El sospechoso se atrincheró en el interior del hotel situado en el 110 de McSwain Drive, donde permaneció al menos dos horas. Se cree que el sospechoso, efectuó disparos contra los agentes de policía y, al parecer, hizo estallar el cristal de una ventana del último piso del hotel.
La policía de West Columbia ha pedido a los ciudadanos que eviten la zona de Sunset Boulevard en la I-26 en West Columbia. Se pide a los conductores que busquen rutas alternativas, ya que las carreteras en las inmediaciones del hotel han sido acordonadas.
South Carolina Shootings at West Columbia’s Hilton Garden Inn hotel
An active shooter situation is reported to be developing this afternoon, Tuesday, January 17, at Hilton Garden Inn in West Columbia, South Carolina.
The suspect has barricaded himself inside the hotel located at 110 McSwain Drive, where he has remained for at least two hours. The male suspect is believed to have fired shots at police officers, with the glass reportedly blown out of a window on the hotel’s top floor,
Members of the public have been asked by West Colombia PD to avoid the area of Sunset Boulevard at I-26 in West Columbia. Drivers are asked to find alternative routes as the roads in the vicinity of the hotel have been cordoned off.

Perú Civil Unrest
Due to the ongoing civil unrest, we continue to advise you to reevaluate your need to travel to Cusco, Puno, Arequipa, and Ayacucho. Local curfews and a State of Emergency have been implemented as a result of the disturbances and protests. Even if airport closures may continue to cause delays, commercial flights remain the safest way to travel throughout Peru. Unexpected disruptions to land transportation, including those by train and road, are possible. In many areas of the nation, notably in the south, there are persistent road blockades, including between the cities of Arequipa, Puno, and Cusco. For concerned tourists, the Peruvian tourism board i-Peru has made an online registration form available.
A curfew has also been established in the department of Puno, from 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. The state of emergency and curfews may be extended to other parts of the country, depending on the evolution of circumstances. Omán Documentación y visados
Covid-19: las autoridades omaníes levantaron todas las restricciones sanitarias para entrar en Omán el 23 de mayo de 2022. A todos los viajeros no omaníes se les puede solicitar presentar un seguro médico que cubra el coste del tratamiento para la COVID-19. Es posible que le soliciten pauta completa de vacunación para entrar en los departamentos oficiales y privados. La normativa para entrar en Omán puede cambiar, por lo que se recomienda encarecidamente verificar los requisitos sanitarios con la compañía aérea con la que se va a desplazar a Omán. Es muy recomendable contratar un seguro médico de viaje válido lo más amplio posible, que cubra todas las incidencias posibles.
Es necesario pasaporte con validez mínima de 6 meses desde la fecha de entrada en Omán. Se recomienda llevar una copia del pasaporte en todo momento. La expedición de visados y permisos de residencia en Omán es competencia exclusiva de las autoridades omaníes. Para estancias de hasta 14 días, los ciudadanos españoles están exentos de visado.
Omán es, por lo general, un país seguro y no hay problemas de seguridad, aunque se recomienda a los ciudadanos españoles que ejerzan precaución responsable. Se pueden producir lluvias torrenciales y riadas sin previo aviso, especialmente entre septiembre y marzo. Las excursiones al desierto, wadis, zonas sin asfaltar y a la montaña deben evitarse en solitario y se debe ir provisto del equipo necesario y de suficientes provisiones. Antes de iniciar el viaje se aconseja seguir las fuentes de información oficiales, así como las Recomendaciones de la Embajada de España competente.
Se aconseja vestir con recato y respetar los usos y leyes locales. Omán sólo reconoce las uniones matrimoniales entre personas de distinto sexo y las relaciones sexuales entre personas del mismo sexo o no casadas, la prostitución y el travestismo están castigados con penas de prisión. El alcohol se puede consumir únicamente en hoteles y establecimientos con licencia. La legislación en materia de delitos relacionados con las drogas es especialmente dura en Omán. Para evitar problemas en caso de entrar con medicamentos se recomienda llevar la receta médica reciente. Los extranjeros deben estar al corriente del pago de sus multas de tráfico o deudas pendientes, de lo contrario no se les permitirá salir del país.
En caso de accidente, conviene no mover el vehículo hasta la llegada de la policía (teléfono local de emergencias: 9999). En caso de detención, tiene derecho a comunicar su situación a la Embajada a través del teléfono de emergencia consular (+ 968 99 47 33 70), donde se le proporcionará -si lo desea- un listado de abogados.
Oman Documentation and visas
Covid-19: Omani authorities lifted all health restrictions for entry into Oman on 23 May 2022. All non-Omani travellers may be required to present medical insurance to cover the cost of treatment for Covid-19. A full vaccination schedule may be required for entry into official and private departments. Regulations for entry into Oman may change, so it is strongly recommended that you check health requirements with the airline you are travelling with to Oman. It is highly recommended that you take out travel medical insurance that is as comprehensive as possible, covering all possible incidents.
A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Oman is required. It is recommended to carry a copy of your passport at all times. The issuance of visas and residence permits in Oman is the sole responsibility of the Omani authorities. For stays of up to 14 days, Spanish citizens are exempt from visa requirements.
Oman is generally a safe country and there are no security problems, although Spanish citizens are advised to exercise responsible caution. Torrential rains and floods can occur without warning, especially between September and March. Excursions into the desert, wadis, unpaved areas and mountains should be avoided on your own and you should carry the necessary equipment and sufficient supplies. Before travelling, it is advisable to follow official sources of information as well as the recommendations of the relevant Spanish Embassy.
It is advisable to dress modestly and respect local customs and laws. Oman only recognises marriages between people of different sexes and sexual relations between people of the same sex or unmarried people; prostitution and transvestism are punishable by imprisonment. Alcohol may be consumed only in hotels and licensed establishments. Legislation on drug-related offences is particularly harsh in Oman. To avoid problems when entering with medication, it is recommended that you carry a recent prescription. Foreigners must be up to date with any outstanding traffic fines or debts, otherwise they will not be allowed to leave the country.
In the event of an accident, it is advisable not to move the vehicle until the police arrive (local emergency telephone number: 9999). In case of arrest, you have the right to report your situation to the embassy via the consular emergency telephone number (+ 968 99 47 33 70), where you will be provided – if you wish – with a list of lawyers.

Sidney Incidente de un vuelo de Qantas
Hoy 18 de enero, un avión Boeing 737-800 de Qantas que opera como vuelo QF144 ha emitido una llamada de socorro, durante, un vuelo de Nueva Zelanda a Australia después de su aterrizaje en el Aeropuerto Internacional de Sydney.
El Boeing 737 ha tenido un problema con uno de sus dos motores cuando todavía estaba a una hora de Sydney, lo que llevó al piloto a emitir la alerta urgente para el vuelo 144 de Qantas.

Sydney Qantas flight incident

A Qantas Airlines plane issued a mayday call for help during a flight from New Zealand to Australia Wednesday, but was able to safely land in Sydney following the terrifying moment.
The Boeing 737 had an issue with one of its two engines when it was still about an hour out from Sydney — prompting the pilot to put out the urgent alert for Qantas Flight 144.
The mayday alert, which is reserved for flights in grave and imminent danger in need of immediate help, was downgraded to a PAN-PAN — possible assistance needed — before the plane completed its three-and-a-half hour flight.
