In Uganda, the presence of terrorist groups such as the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) represents a serious national security concern.
The recent attack at the secondary school in Mpondwe is a reminder of the constant danger Uganda faces. Most of the victims of the attack were students. The ADF is a terrorist group active in the North Kivu and Itur region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Since 2014, they have carried out numerous deadly attacks in Uganda, targeting civilian and military targets.
The terrorist group has declared allegiance to the self-styled Islamic State (Daesh), raising concerns about the spread of terrorism in Central Africa.

It is important to be aware that the threat of terrorist attacks in Uganda and the region continues to exist. In December 2022, terrorist attacks were reported in several villages in western Uganda, and in 2021 there were multiple bombings in and around Kampala. While the attacks did not appear to target foreign nationals, anyone could be a victim. For this reason, citizens are advised to remain vigilant and avoid large public gatherings.
