Senegal. Creciente tensión política.

In the current context of Senegal, growing political tension has been generated by the president’s decision to renounce his intention to stand in the next presidential elections scheduled for February 2024. This decision has generated a profound debate in Senegalese society, as the president is running for a third term, which is prohibited by the Constitution, which establishes a limit of two presidential terms.
In June, the country experienced a series of incidents that have further aggravated the situation. During the protests over the conviction of the opposition leader, accused of an alleged corruption offence, there were numerous clashes which unfortunately resulted in the loss of life, with at least 20 people killed. These events have generated deep concern in Senegalese society and in the international community.
In addition, another factor that has contributed to the political tension in Senegal is the candidacy of the current president for a third term. This decision has generated heated debate between those who believe that the president should respect the limits set by the constitution and those who support him and believe that his administration deserves to continue.
