España. Canarias. Alerta naranja por fuertes vientos y oleaje en cinco islas. 3 de abril.

La Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) ha emitido una alerta naranja por condiciones meteorológicas adversas en varias islas del archipiélago canario a partir del 3 de abril. Las islas afectadas son Gran Canaria (LPA), Tenerife (TFN/TFS), La Palma (SPC), La Gomera (GMZ) y El Hierro (VDE).

Se prevé que el viento, de componente oeste, alcance rachas máximas de hasta 90 km/h con especial incidencia en medianías y zonas altas. En el caso de Tenerife (TFN/TFS) las rachas más intensas se concentrarán en la zona noroeste y en el entorno del Parque Nacional del Teide, donde no se descartan rachas ocasionalmente huracanadas. En La Palma (SPC) se espera viento de ladera procedente del oeste, también con intensidad.

La AEMET advierte de una precipitación acumulada de hasta 15 mm en una hora afectando principalmente a zonas de cumbre y medianías de las islas.

En la franja costera, se esperan vientos sostenidos de 50 a 61 km/h (fuerza 7) del oeste o suroeste, especialmente en las costas sureste y noroeste. A ello se suma un fuerte oleaje combinado del noroeste con olas que podrían alcanzar entre 4 y 5 metros de altura, lo que podría afectar a la navegación marítima interinsular.

Los aeropuertos internacionales de Gran Canaria (LPA), Tenerife Norte (TFN) y Tenerife Sur (TFS), La Palma (SPC), La Gomera (GMZ) y El Hierro (VDE) podrían registrar alteraciones en sus operaciones. Las turbulencias, reducida visibilidad y fuertes rachas de viento podrían provocar retrasos, desvíos o cancelaciones en vuelos regionales e internacionales con origen o destino en estas islas. Las conexiones entre islas también podrían verse afectadas tanto por aire como por mar, especialmente en las rutas hacia y desde Gran Canaria (LPA) y Tenerife (TFN/TFS) que actúan como nodos principales de transporte interinsular.

– Se recomienda a los viajeros con vuelos previstos hacia o desde las islas afectadas que verifiquen el estado de su vuelo con la aerolínea o aeropuerto antes de desplazarse.
– Se aconseja evitar desplazamientos innecesarios por carretera en zonas montañosas o costeras expuestas al viento.
– Es importante seguir las indicaciones de las autoridades locales y servicios de emergencia.
– En caso de desplazamientos en barco, consultar con antelación el estado de la mar y posibles cancelaciones de trayectos interinsulares.

Spain. Canary Islands. Orange alert for strong winds and waves on five islands. 3 April.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued an orange alert for adverse weather conditions on several islands in the Canary Islands archipelago from 3 April. The islands affected are Gran Canaria (LPA), Tenerife (TFN/TFS), La Palma (SPC), La Gomera (GMZ) and El Hierro (VDE).

The wind, from the west, is expected to reach maximum gusts of up to 90 km/h, with a particular impact on the middle and upper areas. In the case of Tenerife (TFN/TFS), the most intense gusts will be concentrated in the north-western area and around the Teide National Park, where occasional hurricane-force gusts cannot be ruled out. On La Palma (SPC) strong side winds from the west are expected.

The AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) has issued a warning of up to 15 mm of rainfall in one hour, mainly affecting the higher and middle areas of the islands.

Along the coast, sustained winds of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) are expected from the west or southwest, especially on the southeast and northwest coasts. In addition, there will be strong northwest waves that could reach between 4 and 5 metres in height, which could affect inter-island maritime navigation.

The international airports of Gran Canaria (LPA), Tenerife North (TFN) and Tenerife South (TFS), La Palma (SPC), La Gomera (GMZ) and El Hierro (VDE) could experience disruptions to their operations. Turbulence, reduced visibility and strong gusts of wind could cause delays, diversions or cancellations to regional and international flights to and from these islands. Inter-island connections could also be affected by both air and sea, especially on routes to and from Gran Canaria (LPA) and Tenerife (TFN/TFS) which act as the main inter-island transport hubs.

– Travellers with scheduled flights to or from the affected islands are advised to check the status of their flight with the airline or airport before travelling.
– It is advisable to avoid unnecessary road travel in mountainous or coastal areas exposed to the wind.
– It is important to follow the instructions of local authorities and emergency services.
– In case of travelling by boat, check in advance the sea conditions and possible cancellations of inter-island routes.
