Kenia. Nairobi. Huelga de VTC afectando a la movilidad de la ciudad hasta el 19 de julio.
La ciudad de Nairobi se enfrenta a una huelga de Vehículos de Transporte con Conductor (VTC) que está afectando significativamente la movilidad. Miles de conductores de la industria de los viajes compartidos están actualmente protestando, llevando a cabo manifestaciones pacíficas a lo largo de esta semana desde las 08:00 hora local hasta las 17:00 horas.
La escasez de servicios de transporte ha obligado a muchos viajeros a depender de otros modos de transporte o a pagar tarifas más altas por los pocos viajes disponibles. Esta situación está causando inconvenientes a los viajeros que necesitan desplazarse por la ciudad, especialmente aquellos que requieren transporte desde y hacia el Aeropuerto Internacional Jomo Kenyatta (NBO).
No es la primera vez que los conductores de aplicaciones de taxis se declaran en huelga en Kenia. En 2019 y 2022, ya se había convocado una huelga nacional.
– Se recomienda a los viajeros que planifiquen sus desplazamientos con antelación y consideren alternativas de transporte como autobuses, trenes o servicios de taxis tradicionales.
– Estar preparados para posibles aumentos en las tarifas de transporte debido a la alta demanda y la escasez de servicios disponibles.
– Evitar viajar durante las horas pico de la manifestación para minimizar posibles retrasos.
– Los viajeros que tengan vuelos desde o hacia el Aeropuerto Internacional Jomo Kenyatta (NBO) deben prever tiempos adicionales para llegar al aeropuerto.

The city of Nairobi is facing a Ride-Hailing Services (RHS) strike that is significantly affecting mobility. Thousands of ridesharing drivers are currently protesting, holding peaceful demonstrations throughout this week from 08:00 local time until 17:00 hours.
The shortage of transport services has forced many commuters to rely on other modes of transport or pay higher fares for the few rides available. This situation is causing inconvenience to commuters who need to move around the city, especially those who require transport to and from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO).
This is not the first time taxi app drivers have gone on strike in Kenya. In 2019 and 2022, a nationwide strike has already been called.
– Travellers are advised to plan their journeys in advance and consider alternative transport such as buses, trains or traditional taxi services.
– Be prepared for possible increases in transport fares due to high demand and shortage of available services.
– Avoid travelling during the peak hours of the demonstration to minimise possible delays.
– Travellers with flights to or from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) should allow extra time to get to the airport.
