Un fuerte terremoto de magnitud 7,9 ha sacudido el centro de Myanmar, según ha informado el Centro de Redes de Terremotos de China. El epicentro se ha localizado aproximadamente a 50 kilómetros al este de la ciudad de Monywa, en la región central del país, a una profundidad de 30 kilómetros. Minutos después del primer sismo, se ha registrado una réplica significativa de magnitud 6,4, con epicentro a solo 18 kilómetros al sur de Sagaing.
El sismo ha tenido un fuerte impacto en la infraestructura y ha sido percibido también con intensidad en Bangkok (BKK), capital de Tailandia, y en la región china de Yunnan (KMG). Las autoridades tailandesas han declarado el estado de emergencia en Bangkok como medida preventiva ante posibles réplicas y daños estructurales.
Como consecuencia del movimiento sísmico se está experimentando limitaciones en la conectividad, lo que podría afectar las comunicaciones móviles e internet durante las próximas horas. Como medida de precaución, el Gobierno ha solicitado la evacuación de oficinas públicas y edificios administrativos en las zonas afectadas.
En Myanmar, las zonas más afectadas se sitúan en las regiones de Mandalay, Sagaing y Magway, donde se encuentran varios aeropuertos relevantes para el tránsito aéreo nacional e internacional. Los aeropuertos más próximos al epicentro y, por tanto, con mayor probabilidad de haber sufrido interrupciones son el Aeropuerto Internacional de Mandalay (MDL), el Aeropuerto de Monywa (NYW), el Aeropuerto de Pakokku (PKK) y el Aeródromo de Anisakan (no comercial, vuelos limitados).
Aunque algunos de estos aeropuertos tienen operaciones limitadas, el Aeropuerto Internacional de Mandalay (MDL) actúa como uno de los principales puntos de entrada internacional al norte del país. Las operaciones en este aeropuerto pueden experimentar cancelaciones o retrasos debido a inspecciones estructurales o medidas de seguridad post-sísmicas.
En Bangkok (BKK), los vuelos con destino o escala en Myanmar, especialmente a MDL, podrían ser suspendidos temporalmente. También se podrían ver afectadas las rutas desde Yunnan (Aeropuerto Internacional de Kunming Changshui – KMG), dadas las medidas de precaución implementadas tras haberse sentido los temblores en esa región.

Los viajeros que se encuentren en Bangkok (BKK) o Yunnan (KMG) y tengan previsto viajar a Myanmar deben considerar posponer su viaje hasta que se restablezcan las condiciones de seguridad y transporte.

A strong 7.9 magnitude earthquake has shaken central Myanmar, according to the China Earthquake Network Centre. The epicentre was located approximately 50 kilometres east of the city of Monywa, in the central region of the country, at a depth of 30 kilometres. Minutes after the first earthquake, a significant aftershock of magnitude 6.4 was recorded, with its epicentre just 18 kilometres south of Sagaing.
The earthquake has had a strong impact on infrastructure and has also been felt intensely in Bangkok (BKK), the capital of Thailand, and in the Chinese region of Yunnan (KMG). The Thai authorities have declared a state of emergency in Bangkok as a preventive measure against possible aftershocks and structural damage.
As a result of the seismic movement, there are currently connectivity limitations, which could affect mobile communications and the internet over the next few hours.
