En el aeropuerto de Heathrow (LHR), uno de los principales centros de transporte aéreo en Londres, se prevén posibles retrasos y cancelaciones de vuelos durante el fin de semana del 4 al 7 de mayo. Esta situación se debe a una huelga anunciada por el personal de repostaje de combustible, según ha informado el sindicato Unite. La huelga, que involucrará a 50 trabajadores de la empresa AFS, está programada para 72 horas a partir del 4 de mayo.
Heathrow (LHR) ha comunicado que ya están en marcha medidas de contingencia para minimizar el impacto de la huelga. Entre las aerolíneas afectadas se encuentran Virgin Atlantic, Delta Air Lines, Emirates y Air France, que operan numerosos vuelos internacionales desde y hacia Heathrow. Sin embargo, se destaca que las operaciones de British Airways, que representan más de la mitad del tráfico en Heathrow, no se verán afectadas por esta situación.
Los trabajadores de AFS son responsables del abastecimiento de combustible a las aeronaves de 35 diferentes aerolíneas, jugando un papel esencial en el mantenimiento de las operaciones aéreas cotidianas. Las tareas de este personal incluyen la inspección de seguridad de las aeronaves antes del repostaje, la operación de equipos especializados y el cálculo preciso de la carga de combustible necesaria, basado en varios factores como la duración del vuelo y las condiciones meteorológicas previstas.
