Germany Imposes Mandatory COVID-19 Testing Requirement for Unvaccinated People

Update. Authorities in Germany plan to update COVID-19-related international entry restrictions. The new rule that will apply to unvaccinated and non-recovered travellers over the age of 12, regardless of which area they arrive from, enters into force on Sunday, August 1
From August 1, 2021, all persons aged 12 and over must present a current test certificate when they enter the Federal Republic of Germany, unless they have been vaccinated or have recovered.
Consequently, this means that all persons who do not hold a vaccination certificate or medical proof that indicates that the holder has recovered from the disease, need to undergo COVID-19 testing before entering Germany.

The PCR test result must be taken within 72 hours before entering Germany, whereas the rapid antigen test must be taken within 48 hours before arrival. Until now, mandatory Coronavirus testing has only been imposed on air passengers. However, in compliance with the new rules, persons travelling by train or personal cars will also be required to undergo testing. Only those who have been fully immunised against the disease, meaning that they have been administered two doses of the vaccine, are exempted from this rule.

Authorities could ease, tighten, or otherwise amend restrictions with little-to-no notice based on disease activity over the coming weeks. Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements.
