A partir del 5 de marzo de 2025, se abre el registro para los ciudadanos europeos de inicio del proceso de solicitud de la Autorización Electrónica de Viaje (ETA), un requisito obligatorio para ingresar al Reino Unido desde el 2 de abril de 2025. Este nuevo procedimiento afectará a todos los viajeros que lleguen a los principales aeropuertos internacionales del país, incluyendo Londres Heathrow (LHR), Londres Gatwick (LGW), Mánchester (MAN), Edimburgo (EDI), Birmingham (BHX) y Glasgow (GLA).
La implementación de la ETA modificará los requisitos de entrada para los viajeros procedentes de la Unión Europea, quienes deberán completar el trámite antes de su viaje. Sin embargo, el gobierno británico ha anunciado una exención temporal para los viajeros en tránsito aéreo que no crucen el control fronterizo. Esta medida beneficiará a aquellos viajeros con conexiones internacionales hacia otros destinos como América o Asia, evitando retrasos y simplificando los trámites de viaje.
El requisito de la ETA afectará a los viajeros que utilicen los principales aeropuertos británicos como puntos de entrada o tránsito. Londres Heathrow (LHR) y Londres Gatwick (LGW), que funcionan como centros de conexión clave para vuelos intercontinentales, podrían experimentar un aumento en los tiempos de control migratorio para quienes no cuenten con la documentación requerida. Lo mismo aplicará a los aeropuertos de Mánchester (MAN), Edimburgo (EDI), Birmingham (BHX) y Glasgow (GLA), que reciben un alto volumen de vuelos europeos e internacionales.
Si bien los viajeros en tránsito directo estarán exentos de este requisito, quienes deseen ingresar al Reino Unido o cambiar de aeropuerto para continuar su viaje deberán contar con la ETA aprobada previamente.
– Se aconseja solicitar la ETA tan pronto como sea posible después de la apertura del sistema el 5 de marzo de 2025 para evitar inconvenientes.
– Gestionar el trámite a través de la página oficial del Gobierno del Reino Unido www.gov.uk/electronictravelauthorisation.
– Verificar que el pasaporte esté en regla y que los datos proporcionados en la solicitud coincidan con los del documento de viaje, ya que cualquier discrepancia podría derivar en la denegación de entrada.
– Planificar con antelación los viajes que impliquen conexión en aeropuertos británicos para evitar retrasos inesperados debido a los nuevos controles.
Desde el 8 de enero de 2025, ciudadanos de 54 países y territorios ya necesitan una ETA para viajar al Reino Unido, por lo que se recomienda consultar las regulaciones vigentes antes de planificar un viaje.
