Reino Unido. Huelga de gran impacto en Heathrow, coincidiendo con la Semana Santa
El sindicato Unite que representa al personal de seguridad de la terminal 5 del aeropuerto Londres Heathrow, la de British Airways, ha anunciado una huelga de 10 días hasta el 9 de abril. Se espera que participen en esta huelga alrededor de 1.400 empleados en Heathrow. La huelga afectará tanto a los empleados de la seguridad de la Terminal 5 como al personal que controla las mercancías que llegan al aeropuerto. La Terminal 5 es utilizada exclusivamente por British Airways y los guardias de seguridad, que se encargan de controlar toda la carga que entra en el aeropuerto.
La huelga prevista ha obligado a British Airways a cancelar más de 300 vuelos.
Unite ha declarado que la huelga provocará graves retrasos. El aeropuerto permanecerá abierto y operativo, pero las huelgas pueden afectar los viajes de algunos pasajeros que planean viajar durante este período.
British Airways cancelará unos 32 vuelos diarios -el equivalente al cinco por ciento de sus vuelos desde y hacia Heathrow durante el fin de semana de Pascua- debido a la huelga.
Los días de huelga, los pasajeros sólo podrán pasar el control de seguridad con dos bultos de equipaje de mano (los bolsos de mano y las bolsas para portátiles cuentan como una pieza de equipaje de mano). Se ruega a los viajeros que se presenten en el control de seguridad con los líquidos y aparatos electrónicos fuera del equipaje de mano.
La sala VIP de Heathrow permanecerá cerrada a los pasajeros en los días de huelga.
Se recomienda a los pasajeros que viajen hasta el 9 de abril que comprueben el estado de su vuelo con su compañía aérea antes de viajar al aeropuerto, lleguen a Heathrow no antes de dos horas antes de los vuelos de corta distancia y tres horas antes de los vuelos de larga distancia, y estén preparados para pasar el control de seguridad con sus líquidos y aparatos electrónicos fuera del equipaje de mano.

The Unite union representing security staff at London Heathrow Airport’s British Airways Terminal 5 has announced a 10-day strike until 9 April. Around 1,400 employees at Heathrow are expected to take part in the strike. The strike will affect both Terminal 5 security staff and staff who check incoming cargo at the airport. Terminal 5 is used exclusively by British Airways and security guards who are responsible for checking all cargo that enters the airport.
The planned strike action is forcing British Airways to cancel more than 300 flights.
Unite has said the walkout will cause severe delays. The airport will remain open and operational, but strikes may affect travel for some passengers planning to travel during this period.
British Airways will cancel around 32 flights per day – the equivalent of five per cent of its flights to and from Heathrow over the Easter weekend – due to the strike action.
On strike days, passengers will only be allowed to travel through security with two items of hand luggage (handbags and laptop bags count as a piece of carry-on baggage). Travellers are urged to be ready for security with liquids and electronics already out of their hand luggage.
Heathrow’s VIP suite will be closed to departing passengers on strike days.
Anyone travelling until 9 April is encouraged to arrive at the airport for their flight no earlier than two hours before departure time for short haul, and three hours for long haul.
