Germany (Europe) An imminent strike at Hamburg airport has been announced for today.

The Verdi union has called a one-day warning strike at Hamburg airport at short notice on Monday. Already 31 of 160 departures have been cancelled, Hamburg Airport announced this morning. The warning strike was called by employees of the handling service provider Aviation Handling Services Hamburg GmbH AHS, who are responsible for check-in and boarding, among other things.

AHS serves several airlines, including Lufthansa, Swiss, Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines. Employees were originally scheduled to handle 84 departures on Monday. Due to the warning strike, there could be further cancellations and significant delays for flights served by AHS, the airport said.

In total, all airlines had planned 160 departures at Hamburg today. Flights served by other service companies are not affected.

Travelers are advised to confirm the status of their flights, to allow for extra time to reach their gates, and contact their airlines for further details.
