El tifón Mawar azota el este de Taiwán y el norte de Filipinas mientras se dirige al sur de Japón. El tifón Mawar ha azotado este martes la costa oriental de Taiwán con viento, lluvia y grandes olas. Se espera que el tifón gire hacia el noreste el miércoles y se dirija hacia el sur de Japón. Según la Oficina de Defensa Civil, más de 3.400 residentes seguían alojados en refugios de emergencia en las provincias septentrionales, los vuelos hacia y desde Batanes seguían suspendidos y más de 250 ciudades y pueblos septentrionales aún no habían reanudado sus horarios escolares habituales. Mawar, el tifón más potente que ha visitado Guam en más de 20 años, arrasó la isla la semana pasada, volcando coches, arrancando tejados y derribando árboles.

Offshore Typhoon Mawar lashes eastern Taiwan, northern Philippines as it heads for southern Japan. Typhoon Mawar struck Taiwan’s eastern coast on Tuesday with wind, rain, and big waves but mostly avoided the island after sparing the northern Philippines. Slowly, the typhoon was approaching southern Japan.The typhoon is expected to turn northeast by Wednesday and head into southern Japan. It was offshore and approximately 350 kilometers (217 miles) east of Basco, the capital of Batanes.According to the Office of Civil Defense, more than 3,400 residents were still staying in emergency shelters in northern provinces, flights to and from Batanes were still being suspended, and more than 250 northern cities and towns had not yet resumed their regular school schedules.The most powerful typhoon to visit Guam in more than 20 years, Mawar tore into the island last week, flipping cars, ripping off roofs, and toppling trees.
