Germany to tighten some COVID-19 related entry restrictions from March 28

Update. Authorities in Germany plan to tighten certain COVID-19-related international entry restrictions. Starting March 28, all travelers arriving in the country by air must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 48 hours before departure; previously, only travelers arriving from designated risk areas were required to provide such a test.
Most travel from outside the EEA, with the exception of that from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand, is prohibited. Exemptions are in place for EU nationals or residents and their family members, individuals carrying out essential work, or individuals traveling for urgent reasons. Permitted individuals arriving from «risk areas» must self-isolate for at least 10 days in addition to presenting a negative COVID-19 test before departure; this quarantine can be ended early following a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken on or after the fifth day.
The restrictions previously set to run through March 28 will now remain in place until April 18.
