UK. Heathrow passengers delayed for hours after biometric passport gates fail

Heathrow passengers are being delayed for several hours due to a problem with self-service passport gates. E-gates, allow travellers with biometric passports to pass through border control without a manual inspection.

Travellers arriving at Heathrow were forced to either wait in long queues in terminals or remain on aircraft. Gatwick and Edinburgh airports were also affected.

While they are unable to provide live wait times at immigration or provide an accurate estimate of the time it will take to get through to the arrivals hall, we would tend to recommend that passengers allow for at least one hour from their scheduled arrival time.
