Italy. Catania airport closed.

The resulting column of smoke did however force Catania Airport to suspend all activity due to visibility problems the airport authorities announced on social media.

The cloud of smoke and ash spewed by the Etna volcano forced the closure of Catania airport, one of the most important airports in Sicily (southern Italy), on Monday.
The ash covered several urban centres in the region, particularly in the towns of Milo and Acireale.

Seek updated information on road conditions before driving; due to reduced visibility, drive cautiously in areas affected by ash. Carry masks or face coverings and observe other precautions to avoid ash inhalation if operating in the affected area.
